The creative therapies recognized in the professional world demonstrably promote and accelerate the healing process. Art and music therapy are gentle, non-invasive and very effective therapies. The therapeutic approach includes psychological, physiological and/or relationship problems and takes into account the patient's experience. The therapies are carried out by specially trained art therapists as part of a multidisciplinary treatment concept.
Patients/pathologies include premature babies, sick newborns, high-risk pregnancies, chronic illnesses, acute illnesses (e.g. cancer), accidents and psychosomatic disorders and illnesses. The art and music therapy programs help young patients to express themselves and their suffering through creativity, to better understand their personality and what they have experienced, and to process fears and conflicts in a creative, playful way.
The long-term effects go far beyond the hospital stay. The knowledge acquired by the patients helps them to discover their own potential and to use the self-confidence and self-esteem they have gained and, as a result, greater independence, self-efficacy and self-determination for themselves in the future. Several studies show the long-term effectiveness of creative therapies.
The ART-THERAPIE foundation was founded in 2008 on the initiative of Charlote Leber together with six hospitals and is recognized as a non-profit organization. The purpose of the foundation is to support art and music therapy programs for newborns, children and young people in Swiss hospitals.
Swiss hospitals are under severe cost pressure and their financial situation is precarious. The hospitals are generally not able to finance important therapies entirely from their own resources and are not supported by health insurance companies.
