Promoting art, i.e. supporting all interests of both those who create art and those who enjoy art, in the territory of the Swiss Confederation, with special consideration of the Canton of Zurich, such as by promoting theatre, poetry and music, the fine arts, through purchases or subsidies in the purchase of works of painting and sculpture by public museums, by donations to worthy artists, etc.; Support for scientific endeavors in the area of the Swiss Confederation, with special consideration for the Canton of Zurich, e.g. through financing or aid for the financing of research, the establishment of chairs, the publication of writings, etc., both in the humanities and in the natural and technical sciences; Promotion of native belletristic and scientific literature in the territory of the Swiss Confederation by supporting important Swiss writers or by printing important Swiss works.
